Need a Gunsmith to Check a Trapdoor Rifle

Recommended Posts

Hey folks I have received an original Trapdoor Springfield rifle. I would like to shoot it with the appropriate ammo. Before that I would like to have it gone over by a gunsmith to make sure its safe to shoot. Does anyone have a recommendation.  I'm in Middlesex County.

Several of us at the OBRPC Black Powder League own Trapdoor Springfields.  We'd be more than happy to take a look at your rifle and give our opinion of its' condition, "tightness", shoot-ability, etc.  Members own both the original .50-70 as well as the more popular .45-70.

Are you looking for Black Powder cartridges or smokeless cartridges or both?  Those rifles will take both, but the use of smokeless cartridges require "LOW-PRESSURE" or a rating for Trapdoors to be stamped on the box.  Most loadings are of the standard low-pressure variety, with 405 grain lead RNFP bullets.

If you bring your rifle and a box of ammo to the League Black Powder Match, once we look at the gun and declare it tight enough to shoot, you can shoot the Match!  All it will cost is $20 for the Match plus ammo (you supply the ammo).  The League meets on the 1st Sunday of every month at the Outdoor Range.

Hope to hear from you,

Dave

Smokin 50 what range do you guys meet at? Sounds like fun but I can't compete yet rotator cup issues.

OBRPC Range #7 (the 100 yard range).  Acronym for:  Old Bridge Rifle and Pistol Club.

The entire rifle match is a single box of shells (20).  Bring everything anyway so we can inspect your rifle.  Hope to see ya there sometime.  Also hope your shoulder heals-up.
