Hypothetical Transport Scenario (because I know you love these).

Recommended Posts

BTW, I put the question, slightly differently (about long gun transporting on motorcycle) to someone with respectable credentials as LEO.  The advice was to find alternative, suitable transportation, as anything visible (even outline) could be construed as threat to law enforcement given high alert for terrorism activity.

On the topic of brown bags and ropes. In Reininger case, apparently the prosecutor successfully convinced the jury that nylon zip bags, gun socks did not qualify as “closed and fastened case” or “securely tied package” under the law.  FYI.

This is good to know, thank you. It seems this law is quite... er, malleable. Just hammer it hard enough and you can bend it to your will.

I should consider spray-painting "SECURELY TIED PACKAGE" on all of my gun cases to close that avenue.

for what its worth when I lived very close to the Clinton WMA,  I rode my bicycle with 2 shotguns in soft cases strapped to the top tube and a back pack with my ammo in it to the range to meet up with friends to shoot clays. many of those times I was passed by state troopers who did not even blink an eye. I also rode my bike transporting my shotgun in the same manner while wearing all my hunters orange to go bird hunting at Clinton. I was checked by a conservation officer as I was about to place my shotgun back into its case on my bike. all he cared about was making sure I had a licenses and bird stamp and the plug was in. he thought it was funny as hell that I was riding my bike. Although if I could have driven my truck I would have but my licenses was suspended at the time so if I wanted to hunt and shoot I had to ride the bike.

Disclaimer-  My licenses was not suspended because of a DUI. I just used to drive like I was racing all the time and accumulated to many points on my licenses. I have since learned my lesson.............for the most part LOL
