A-Tech 8 Posted August 25, 2015 I bought 8 new Hexmags a short while back during a good sale in hopes that I could add some nice 15/30's for cheap that I wouldn't mind breaking/loosing. I ran them during OB's IDPA/rifle match and had some issues with feeding. I was using a mix of pmags and hexmags for the match because I was just taking them out of the ammo can without thinking. I chalked it up to a bad day because it just wasn't consistent. Turns out that it was consistent and I had just been mixing mags. Fast forward to this passed Sunday during a Green Academy of Personal Protection Defensive Carbine course. I only used the hexmags, and had FTF with 7 of the 8 mags, 100% consistently. I would get 2-3 shots off before it would fail to strip a round. All problems stop when I switched over to pmags, and also steel mags. Go back to hexmags, and it's continues to malfunction. So, this is goodbye Hexmag.
ADK1113 1 Posted August 25, 2015 Damn sorry to hear that bud. Mine have been running consistently. Mind if I borrow one of your bad ones? I would like to compare it with one of mine and see if there is a difference Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
Vlad G 345 Posted August 25, 2015 You know that hexmag has a lifetime warranty? Did you try calling them?
Lalo 13 Posted August 25, 2015 Were you really surprised that they didnt perform? They do have a lifetime warranty so they'll replace them for you. I would keep that number handy though because it's probably not the last time you'll see problems with those mags. I know they're affordable but man, with all these issues that people are reporting with these mags, if not for training purposes, why use these? A-Tech 8 Posted August 25, 2015 I am aware of the warranty and I would probably take advantage of it IF there were maybe 2 or 3 mags that were bad. 7 of 8 magazines is unacceptable though. That leaves me absolutely no faith in their manufacturing process or QC. I absolutely agree with Lalo that it would just happen again. To me, it's not even worth it to chance it. I'll let them know about my experience, but I won't use their magazines until they release some kind of updated model that addresses the many poor experiences that so many other people have. Vlad G 345 Posted August 25, 2015 I'm pretty sure that their mags are an evolving product. IE: they make continuous improvements without changing the name and model so if you got a batch with a problem of some sort it is very possible it may be gone in the next batch. I have early mags, they work great. He may admits they had issues with a mold and have had problem ones get out. It's a qc problem, not an engineering one from what it looks like, so give them a call. Worst case is you wind up with bad mags like you already have, but make hexmag work for it. I'll give them another shot since you put it that way
raz-0 1,256 Posted August 25, 2015 Firkin auto correct. Hex mag admits there were qc issues. Not he may.
Blacksmythe 71 Posted August 25, 2015 I bought all of mine in their initial release. These things have worked for me. They worked at a gunforhire class, they worked at 2 tactical response classes. I'll let you know how it goes if I decide to take the PACE classes.
A-Tech 8 Posted September 2, 2015 Hexmag got word of my mag failures through Instagram and reached out to me about getting it fixed. I told them about the 8 magazines I had, all FDE, that were giving me feeding problems. I just received 8 new FDE mags + 2 black and 2 OD Green to make sure it isn't a problem with the colors making a difference in the polymers. Pretty awesome customer service from them. Now I just need to test these out and see if my problem is solved.
Lalo 13 Posted September 2, 2015 Good deal! Please let us know how it goes. As a side note, and this is probably not the best thread to ask this question but... With the way Hexmag is "blocking" these 30rd mags to hold 15rds and still allowing for complete dissasembly. How is this different than grabbing a 30rd PMAG, removing the inner baseplate and replacing it with a magblock and NOT pinning and gluing the external baseplate on? vs
A-Tech 8 Posted September 2, 2015 Because the springs are different in the 15/30 hexmags. You can't remove the block and have a 30rd mag.
Krdshrk 3,872 Posted September 2, 2015 Did you have to send the faulty mags back to them?
A-Tech 8 Posted September 2, 2015 Yes they provided a return shipping label for me to send them back so they can examine them. I gave them a bunch of info via email on all of the specifics of my rifle as well as the 2 others that tried using them that same day and experienced failures. They mostly agreed that weak springs are likely at fault as they all experienced a problem after just a couple rounds of firing.
InfringeThis 0 Posted September 22, 2015 Please let us know if the new mags they sent you worked out ok.
