Stack On "tactical" 16 gun security cabinet $102.07 + tax

What's the purpose of a cabinet, a job box, or a safe for ammo? Just curious, as I thought you are creating a bomb by encasing it all in a steel container. Is it to deter theft? Hardly worth stealing due to the weight. Or is it to prevent a minors access? Without a firearm, ammo is like a rock.

for me personally primary is to hide it from my kids. and secondary just to have it in one spot... do you think it's a bad idea to store it like that ?

A cabinet has enough give to vent gases in case of fire. A safe does not. I store ammo in ammo cans. If one were to cook off, it doesn't affect the others.

I saw a house burn down with lots of ammo inside.  They left the ladder hose trained on the roof but backed off all firefighters until the popcorn

popping noise stopped!

I assume the local FD knew that the ammo was not a danger to them yet they still backed off I suppose in fear of any guns with chambered rounds or revolvers

with rounds in the cylinders. Also, would black powder pose a risk of explosion due to it's much faster burning rate???

One fireman told me, "when we hear that sound, we just let it burn to the ground"! Which that house pretty much did!

Yeah I read a lot of NJGFers storing their ammo in safes. I don't understand why. I never read about anyone vaulting their ammo on any other forums (in free states). I think NJ makes people paranoid. Throw it in ammo cans and put it in a closet or build a shelf for all of it like most of us do.

Prob because they don't have enough guns to fill the safe, lol.

I just keep some mags in there for quick access at the ready. Everything else is locked up in old Stackons and ammo cans.

Got news for ya. If firefighters take that method as gospel, then there is no chance most your guns will survive in a fire safe anyway. I've seen firesafes opened up and anything plastic was melted, wood scarred and warped, steel warped. It essentially becomes a furnace after awhile. Gotta scratch my head sometimes why I even worry about fire ratings.

Might be good for diamonds, jewelry and maybe some paperwork, but a lot of things will be doomed imho.

Great video !!! thank you for posting it.

one thing thou they were keep saying commercial grade ammo>> does that mean military grade ammo behaves differently ?

Prob means anything not home reloaded.

I saw that vid years ago when it first came out. Very enlightening. Figured it answered a few questions here.

I looked into it and damn ... those job boxes are expensive .. I'm gonna wait for this cabinet instead

You can usually find them on craigslist used and cheap. $5 in spray paint and your on your way.

This one is for serious shooters:

That's just crazy.

I was an active volunteer firefighter for almost 30 years with three different fire departments....we never worried about loose ammo cooking off.  There would a slight worry about a loaded weapon cooking-off, but loose ammo?  Never worried us.

As for diamonds---remember; they're a form of carbon.  Get them hot enough, they burn, too!

Trust me, I'm not concerned. Would be worried about my collection being ruined more than anything else...
