SureFire Warden - Legal/Illegal?

Recommended Posts

I'm not a lawyer and I am not sure one could tell you what muzzle devices are / aren't legal in NJ.  Calling the law ambiguous is kind.  The description says this:  reducing the overpressure and flash

You go with what you are comfortable with.

By the full text of the quote:

The SureFire Warden Blast Diffuser directs the concussive blast of the muzzle forward of the weapon system and the shooter instead of venting to the side as seen with stand-alone muzzle break devices. This aids in reducing the overpressure and flash felt by others to the immediate left and right of the shooter’s firing position.

While the definition of a Flash Suppressor is:

A flash suppressor, also known as a flash guard, flash eliminator, flash hider, or flash cone, is a device attached to the muzzle of a rifle that reduces its visible signature while firing by cooling or dispersing the burning gases that exit the muzzle, a phenomenon typical of carbine-length weapons. Its primary intent is to reduce the chances that the shooter will be blinded in low-light shooting conditions.

So... what is it?  Lol.  My gut says that it would be an add-on flash hider basically...

Comps and breaks are great for competitions and range days. They flat out suck for CQB. The blast generated to the sides, that is necessary to make them work, is distracting at the least and can cause injury to yourself or others when used in buildings, cars, or close to other shooters - as is required for team based CQB.

The idea behind the SF Warden is that you can have a break attached to your muzzle that can be made passable for CQB by attaching a shroud that covers the baffles on the sides and directs any overpressure forward and away from you or your team mates.

It is not a device everyone needs. This primarily fills the specific niche where you have a 14.5" barrel that has to have a permanently attached muzzle device to avoid running afoul of the NFA nonsense, on a rifle that you need to occasionally wear a brake/comp and sometimes not.

That being said, you could make the argument from the very careful wording in the part description above that the device doesn't necessarily reduce flash, but re-directs it so those next to you don't feel it.

I agree but we'll never know definitively. I may be conservative but nothing is cooler than my freedom.

Would have to be permanently attached. Otherwise it would be a threaded barrel.

How is it a threaded barrel without threads? The video I saw of it did not appear to use threads.

The real issue is what does it do to muzzle flash. I'm going to guess it diffuses the gases, and will reduce it noticeably and be a no-no much like a noveske fire pig.
