Marvelous_Marlin 0 Posted October 30, 2015 I tried emailing, both cherry ridge and the easton range, asking if I'd be allowed to bring store bought spinner/reactive targets. They would be .22lr only and I would like to shoot them at 50-100 yards at Easton and 50-300 at Cherry Ridge. Only CR has gotten back to me and they said I can either ask at orientation or call the range and ask. Do any of you have any experience with this? Paper is getting old and I'd like to freshen up my shooting routine.
The_Matrix 105 Posted October 30, 2015 At Easton, paper only. Nothing else.
Krdshrk 3,877 Posted October 30, 2015 I believe CR has a dedicated rimfire steel/spinner range. Distance isn't that far though - I think 50 yards max. Pretty sure the 300 yard range is paper only as well.
Marvelous_Marlin 0 Posted October 30, 2015 Thanks guys. That's what I pretty much figured. I somewhat recently moved up by Dover and I'm looking for a decent range to join. I was hoping that one of these outdoor ranges would allow me to do some "long range plinking", but I guess I'm more or less limited to paper still. BullzeyeNJ 104 Posted October 30, 2015 Your not allowed to put up your own steel at Cherry Ridge at the 50/100 and 200/300 yard rifle ranges.
Marvelous_Marlin 0 Posted October 30, 2015 Ok thank you. Are there any places that would allow me that you know of?
Marvelous_Marlin 0 Posted October 30, 2015 Also, what about those self healing targets. I assume they're some type of rubber. Do you think I could possibly get approval for them?
Krdshrk 3,877 Posted October 31, 2015 Range 14 will allow you to put up steel targets at 200 yards. Spinners/etc past 25.
Marvelous_Marlin 0 Posted October 31, 2015 Oh ok, sounds good. Guess I'll just have to make a monthly trip down there.
BullzeyeNJ 104 Posted October 31, 2015 Also, what about those self healing targets. I assume they're some type of rubber. Do you think I could possibly get approval for them? At Cherry ridge I doubt it. I saw another member try that without knowing the rules and he was kindly reminded by the range officer that its not allowed. If you join Central Jersey Rifle and Pistol Club or New Holland in Gap, PA then you can put out your own steel.
Marvelous_Marlin 0 Posted October 31, 2015 I've shot at central jersey a couple of times. It's by far the nicest, but it's a long ride and the fact that first year payments end up being $900ish I can't even consider it.
koontz946 0 Posted November 1, 2015 I went to EFGA today for the first time, and someone had a small spinner on the 100yd range. I know it says paper only in the rules, but I guess no one minded. I was there from around 4 until 5.
Marvelous_Marlin 0 Posted November 1, 2015 I guess it could depend on who's around, but I'd rather not push my luck. I don't want to intentionally cause any problems. With that said, I'd like to be given a legitimate, reasonable explanation as to to why shooting those rubber targets, at long range with a standard velocity .22, would be an issue. And by that I mean I would like to ask club officials. I appreciate all the replies I'm getting and I'm not disputing the answers I'm getting. I also fully respect the rules set by any range, however, I am curious why for my own knowledge.
