Looking for factory threaded 30-06 bolt gun

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know of a manufacturer who puts out a bolt action rifle chambered in 30-06 that come with a threaded barrel. I'd prefer over 20". Like 22/24". It seems to be quite elusive, even using my google ninja skills. I would be swapping out the stock as it would be for a precision rifle build in the future. I do not yet own a bolt gun and thought about going with the numerous 308 configurations.

I already built and LR308 and enjoy it regularly. I am torn between availability of parts and configuration for 308, and wanting a different long range caliber that is inexpensive yet readily available. I do not reload and am not interested in a 5.56 SPR build at the moment. A supercomp XL would likely be threaded on the 30-06.

I'd consider a threaded barreled action in 30-06 if it does not require a mortgage. Thanks in advance for all the info and ideas people!

Personally, I would go with 308 over 30-06 b/c it can do everything the 30-06 and match grade ammo is readily available and relatively inexpensive. 308 has less recoil then the 30-06 if that matters. Its a short action over a long action preference too. Anyway, if your set on getting a 30-06 then I would get a cheap Rem 700 and have it threaded by a local gunsmith like Tier One Defense.

If you really want to get into something that has superior ballistics then either one of those cartridges and you dont have to reload for then get a 6.5 Creedmoor. The only thing you give up is shorter barrel life. Its a short action with the same bolt face as 308 so if you started with a factory 308 then later wanted to get it re-barreled in 6.5 CM all you would need is a new barrel. With 30-06 you are stuck with long action calibers or else it gets awkward with feeding.
