The dots are not for aiming in normal lighting conditions. They are reference points for quick alignment of the sights if you have no contrast between your front sight and target - prior to refining your sight picture in preparation to press the trigger.

 

You should be using the crisp, sharp, and in-focus outline of the front sight surrounded by equal light on both sides bracketed by the fuzzy and out of focus rear signt notch.

 

If you are referring to tritium night sights, you don't want them too bright. It makes it hard to see past them - like trying to see the face of a driver at night when they have their hi-beams on. In fact, I take a sharpie and darken my rear tritium dots when they are new.
