Freedom Munitions and their reloads.........

Recommended Posts

1881 rounds of theirs shot. only 1 ever issue round... .223 that would chamber fully, primer would get struck, but it wouldn't go off. also couldn't extract the round without persuasion. other than that POA/POI seems to line up acceptably (at least within my skill set) and I have no complaints about "dirty" (magtech new ammo is far worse in my opinion.)

I don't know what FM charges, but I have seen 9mm for just a little over $200 per case of 1000 (less if you are willing to use steel cased ammo), and .223 for around $300 on a regular basis, sometimes a little less.

Yea the savings on 9mm is minimal with the way they've dropping. I was more interested in getting .45 cal from them. I guess general consensus is that they are pretty good and even when they are not they will own up to it. And lastly wait for the free shipping/daily deals lol.

 Thanks for all the feedback.

note that shipping normally will run you about 5-10% of your order price (dependent on caliber) so keep that in mind when they have their daily deals. generally it's cheaper in the long run to buy with the free shipping, although I do wish they'd come back with the $5 shipping flat rate deal again. THAT was a good deal!

I haven't ordered from them but I do frequent their store quite often to swap brass for bullets to reload. I've never been in there when there weren't at least a few others there. Also, several of the guys I shoot IDPA with use Freedom ammo so it can't be THAT bad.

This signature is AWESOME!!!

I have cycled through 1000 rounds of FM reman 9mm through my vp9 and not a single hiccup. In fact I find it to be more accurate then any other ammo I have shot, which includes Blazer, Remington and Speer lawman's. I still have about 1500 rounds of the reman left, so hopefully I didn't jinx it.

Does anyone have experience with Jim Flynn’s in glen Gardner nj, I bought a bag of 9mm Ammo for my Glock 19 gen 5 and I was wondering if it’s good Ammo and if it’ll be safe to fire in my Glock. Thank you- TD

Just bought and fired a Ruger 1911 Commander. It has a 4.25" barrel which I feel, balances better in the hand than a 5" full size. I have to say that this 1911 impressed the heck out of me. For $700 I was not expecting the features and performance I found. The trigger was great and the gun was easy to get back onto target quickly. I spent a good time reviewing this gun because it impressed me that much. I have spent much more than this on 1911's. I even attempted to compete with a Kimber Custom about 10 years ago and could never get to where I wanted to be with it and switched to shooting 9mm's in competition where I did much better.

If I had this gun I would have stuck with it as it is the best shooting gun I have shot in a very long time. Perhaps that is better said that it is the gun I shoot best out of over 50-60 guns I have bought in the last 12 years, 30 just in the last 3 years alone. I had just about given up on 1911's and sold off the 5 I had. All of my past 1911's were either 5" or 3". The 5 inch did not feel good in my hand. The balance was off and I tend to point shoot. The 3" 1911's were not reliable enough for carry according to my standards and no fun at the range. After 25 rounds of pounding my old arthritic hands, they would shake so bad I had to stop shooting. Now with this baby. I shot 100 rounds of FMJ and 25 rounds of JHP without a problem. In fact, I was mad at myself for not bringing enough ammo.

You could say that like Goldilocks, I found a 1911 that is just right. Not too small and not too big. The fact that it is all steel and 36.5 ounces rather than having an aluminum frame like so many smaller 1911's do these days, makes it shoot and handle as well as the full sized version. As I said in my blog review, I think that the Ruger 1911 commander sized gun is one of the best values in 1911's today. It is as good or better than 1911's I bought that cost over a thousand dollars. It is priced like a gun made overseas but has the quality that Ruger is famous for. They even somehow managed to get the trigger right so that you do not need to do anything to it. it broke at about 4.5 lbs and the reset is nice and short. I was knocking out the center of the target during rapid fire and putting them in a 5" circle at 25 yards without benefit of a bench rest and that is good for someone my age with bad hands and eyes. I was thrilled with the gun.

Admittedly it is kind of heavy for all day carry since all of my other carry guns are under 20 ounces. I can carry 8 rounds of 9mm +P in my pocket at 15 oz. or 8 rounds of .45 ACP on my belt at 36 ounces. These days the 9mm is no slouch like it was in the old days and I am as comfortable with its ability to stop bad guys as any other round. My preference with the .45 has always been that the recoil pushes the gun straight back into my hand and that makes it quick and easy to get back onto target. There is little muzzle flip with this gun; even less than with my Glock 19 or Sig P226. If I knew there was a good chance that I would need to use my gun that day, I would take my Ruger 1911CMD. If it was just another day in the retirement community I live in where there is seldom anyone under the age of 55, my Sig P928 with Speer Gold Dot 9mm +P or S&W 340PD .357 at 11.5 ounces, goes into my pocket. It does not take much to stop old men.

Of course, if I run into very big crack addicted, PCP taking old men I always have my snub nose .454 Casull to use.

I finally got a chance to shoot my new Colt Mustang Pocketlite. I have been trying to buy one since they first were re-introduced in the spring/summer of 2011. I went on a backorder list but after almost a year of hearing that it should be arriving in about 2-3 weeks every time I called, I cancelled my order. Of course, two weeks after I did that, they actually did arrive but were quickly sold to those who had more patience than I did on the backorder list.
I then went on the email notification lists of anyplace I could find online that offered such a service. After many months of never being notified I decided to buy the Sig P238. The P238 is a Colt Mustang with a Sig flair. From what I understand, Sig bought the rights to manufacture the Colt Mustang, which Colt stopped producing in 1997, right before the pocket .380’s took off. Way to go marketing department!  You can usually find the original Colt Mustangs for sale on gun auction website. They were first introduced around 1987. They have a cool factor as they look like miniature 1911’s and were very popular for a time. However despite their cult following, the original Mustang was not known for its reliability. Its slide was cast rather than made from a solid block of steel. Tolerances were not as tight as they should be. Most worked well and others worked well after a little gunsmith work. I was at the range today and a guy was cleaning up his brass and had shot about 100 rounds of S&B .45 ammo. Just as he was about to throw it out i asked him if i could have it. He said sure and gave it too me my question is the primers have what looks like a red translucent coating on them.

Is this coating a sealer and if it is should i do anything different when I eventually reload them. if they are going to be a pain to deal with i will just toss them as it was only a 75 to a 100. But i also want to know beacause of the sportsmans guide deal i was going to buy 500 rounds but if they are going to be a pain to reload i will pass.

      thanks

I have about 350 brass pieces that I have been cyling through my press. Out of those 350 there are some 20 or so that just will not accept the Lee case trimmer. This is the trimmer/sizer that is to cut to the exact 9m Luger size and has a metal post at the blade end that, as far as I know, should be at the diameter expected for the 9mm luger case mouth.

I trim after popping the spent primer, which is built into the Lee case sizing die. Most have no issue but I just can't figure out how a spent pistol case can be too small a the opening.

Any ideas why or what I can do to fix that? I have tried running them through the sizer twice and got nothing.

    • Up for sale a Nikon Monarch 1.5-4.5X20 Riflescope. Scope formerly sat on top of my old Mini 14, so it is used. It also has some aftermarket lens covers on them (Buffalo Creek I believe). I'm asking $100 for the scope. Willing to drive within an hour of Woodbridge or meet half way. Buyer pays any shipping costs. First to post "I'll take it" wins the scope.
    • In 50 years of living in NJ I've never experienced any attempt to inspect the interior of the home, and only one definite inspection of the exterior for an announced reassessment of all properties and that was a drive by. About 9 years of that was living in an apartment, but still, uncommon. Every place I lived had either a finished attic, basement, or both. But they were also included in the habitable square footage on the taxes when we got there.
    • 27.00 and change in tolls to drive down the shore from Rutherford,  47.00 in tolls to go out to Long island to visit dying relatives. Now I read they are going to raise the fees in the DMV. Murphy lied just to get elected when he said that seniors will get a significant tax break with his StayNJ" program to stop us from leaving.   Keep voting for democrats...this is what you get.  Tax and spend is all they know.  Never cut anything.  This state sucks.
    • I get the added benefit that since I have a TSP rather than a true 401(k) they tax my retirement too. Yaaaay!
