M1a Gunsmith/Armorer in NJ?

Recommended Posts

Listen to Pizza Bob, call Carl Leisinger in Ewing he is excellent with M1's and M1A's . I have used him before and would highly recommend him  (609) 540-1902

Thanks for the telephone number - I'll give him a call today. Ewing's not that far from me so not having to ship the rifle is a big plus.

Good choice.

I think so too based on some other recommendations that I've received for him as well. The Brown Truck showed up yesterday with my parts, so I'm all set to drop everything off and let Carl do his thing. I'll post some "before" pictures of my rifle later on, but I'll probably wait to post the "after" pictures until I can complete the finish job on the stock (I picked up a new unfinished walnut stock from Fulton Armory - I'm going to finish it using just pure Tung oil and some Gunny paste).

Glad that it worked out for you. Carl is a good guy and a great friend.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

I completely agree - Carl is a great guy and I'm glad that you recommended him to me.

I learned a lot of practical information about the M1a in just a few short conversations with him. Carl's even got me considering setting up a small re-loading station in my garage after a short conversation about the overall process (it turns out that I was over-complicating the process in my head).

I'll try to post some "after" pictures over the weekend while I'm at the range breaking in the new barrel a little.

So far, I can say that it feels like a completely different gun with the shorter barrel and the hooded gas lock front sight (the thin front blade is very easy to pick up and focus on).

I'm still in the process of finishing the walnut stock that will eventually replace the plastic SAI factory stock that on it now. I've got two coats of 50/50 tung oil and mineral spirits rubbed in so far. I'm letting the second coat soak in for another day, after that I'll start rubbing in 4 or 5 coats of 100% tung oil.

Here's a shot of the new front end of the rifle:

It's got a Springfield muzzle brake and an SEI hooded gas lock front sight. All of this is sitting on the end of a new Criterion 18.5" barrel.

I put 100 rounds through it today and it functioned perfectly. I still need to tweak the elevation a little bit but the windage is fine at 100 yards
