Private Sale of Pre1899 Long Gun

Federal law doesn't consider these to be firearms.  What is required in NJ to sell one of these in a private sale?

Generally a COE for each party usually fills the bill (just like a muzzleloader)  No NICS is run at a FFL's place of business, however the Buyer should have NJFPID Card.   If the gun doesn't fire "modern, fixed ammunition" nothing other than a COE.

Does it fit the definition of Antique Firearm ?  If so, even COE may not be required.  But guess COE doesnt hurt.

IANAL, but that Whitney that I had last year was sold using the same long gun procedure that I used for the double barrel that you bought.

Treat it like a muzzleloader - if the buyer is in NJ make sure they have an FPID card and do COEs

Well the point is not getting jammed up in a state were many things can do so to you. Private sale- fill out the COE regardless of whether or not the gun has a serial number.
