Moto102 7 Posted December 17, 2015 Moved to East Hanover in March Went down to PD to get my address changed on my FID Turned in my FID card in May with the detective after my fingerprinting Was told in July that my investigation was complete and needs to be signed off by the chief. Call every two weeks and I still do not have my FID card. Anyone have any suggestions? The Chiefs secretary is my only contact and I have been very cordial with her. She seems to realize that this is a problem. Now I am concerned with how long pistol permits will take. Anyone have experience with this?.
JohnnyB 4,330 Posted December 17, 2015 Holy crap! You started the process 7 months ago and as of 5 months ago, it was waiting for the CLEO to sign! I would guess your local Police Chief is not very 2A friendly!!!! I would contact the PD and request a meeting with the chief, if asked for a reason, tell them it's a personal matter! Without being obvious, put your cell phone in your shirt pocket and record the meeting on video for NJ2AS!!!!
MK25 V 3 Posted December 17, 2015 Good Luck, man that sounds like you are in a tough spot. Sucks that they make us wait for something so simple to complete.
ChrisJM981 924 Posted December 17, 2015 Moto, I'd advise contacting ANJRPC. They have put all municipalities in NJ on notice about delays. In the interim I'd start with the detective. If you don't get anywhere there, maybe an appointment with the chief will be necessary.
Luso 6 Posted December 17, 2015 The ANJRPC are pussies who love Christie and publicly exalt him Stop bullshitting and wasting your time. Go in there and audio and video record the PD and cite the amount of time they've been making you wait. Ask why they have taken 7 months to approve something that by law is supposed to take less than30 days. Then PM me and your content will get pushed online. If you don't record them, it never happened.
OfcrFek 21 Posted December 17, 2015 go here: http://www.nj.gov/governor/contact/ and submit a formal complaint about it. I had waited 3 months for a change of address, and was told it would be another 3 or 4 months to go. wrote the governor through that, and had my change of address and p2p's 3 days later. not saying it will be the same for you... but hopefully it is. lol. bdhszy1 18 Posted December 17, 2015 I am relatively new to firearm ownership and I am not a lawyer. I keep seeing on this forum that "the law says they have 30 days to respond". Or what? Do they throw someone in the briar patch? Does someone get fined/ jail time? I never heard of a law where there is no consequence if it is broken. Sadly, I realize that it is their bat and ball and they can do whatever they want, but there must be a penalty written down somewhere.

No. It's already been challenged in court and the court basically said it doesn't matter, they (the police) can take as long as they want.
Pizza Bob 1,488 Posted December 17, 2015 A couple thoughts: !) Skip the chief, he obviously knows what is going on if you are getting vibes from his secretary - make an appointment with the mayor. CLEO is not an elected position, the mayor is. 2) As said - contact the ANJRPC Strikeforce. 3) Re: The 30 day clock - the court finding was that the 30 days didn't start until all investigative materials were in hand. By their own admission, that happened 5 months ago. File a complaint with the county prosecutor citing the law and their admission. Good luck. Adios, Pizza Bob
revenger 473 Posted December 17, 2015 I have come to the conclusion that it is easier to temporally move ( rent a room or cheap apartment ) to a gun friendly town, get what you want and than change back. These delays are BS and chief should be charged.

mikeyjones 88 Posted December 21, 2015 East Hanover is terrible when it comes to 2A. Had a buddy wait over 1.5 years for an initial FID. Another waited 7 months for a carry permit - therefore unable to start a job he was hired for. The one getting a carry permit had personal connection to mayor and still took forever. Moto102 7 Posted December 21, 2015 I think I put it under civil rights.... Not exactly correct but it was probably the best of the given choices
