Gus 33 Posted December 30, 2015 Just wanted to remind anyone who shoots at a WMA to renew their hunting license. Licenses expire at the end of the year.

AVB-AMG 530 Posted December 30, 2015 Ok, I know this may seem like an elementary question, but as a non-hunter, what does WMA stand for? (Let the smart ass comments begin....)
Gus 33 Posted December 30, 2015 WMA stands for Wildlife Management Area. The NJ division of fish and wildlife manages public lands around the state where people can go hunting, fishing, nature walking etc. Some of these areas have shooting and archery ranges where you can target practice or clay shoot. But you must have a hunting license to do so. Many people who don't hunt, get their license just to be able to shoot there for free.
AVB-AMG 530 Posted December 30, 2015 Gus: Thank you. I will figure out how to apply for a 2016 WMA license, specifically for the shooting clays option. AVB-AMG
Parker 213 Posted December 30, 2015 Detail on WMA ranges: http://www.state.nj.us/dep/fgw/ranges.htm
Gus 33 Posted December 30, 2015 http://www.state.nj.us/dep/fgw/hunted.htm This link will take you to the NJ F&W website. This will tell you everything you need to do to get a hunting license. A lot of the members here get together about once a month up in the Clinton WMA and do a clay shoot. You might want to go out with them. You don't need a license if someone in the group has one, and I am sure several of the guys do. This way you can see what its all about, and get some clay shooting in at the same time. They usually have a thread going on here. Im sure if you search "shotgun shootout" you will find the threads.
Gus 33 Posted December 30, 2015 Parker has a good link on the ranges. Beat me to it.
djg0770 481 Posted December 30, 2015 Gus: Thank you. I will figure out how to apply for a 2016 WMA license, specifically for the shooting clays option. AVB-AMG There is no WMA license. There's simply a hunting license. In order to get the hunting license you need to have successfully passed a hunter education course. Let us know if you need more detail and someone will certainly pipe up with the procedure to get you "hunter ed certified".
