Spartan Group Experience?

Recommended Posts

Looking to see if anyone has experience with Spartan Group... these guys formerly were affiliated with RTSP and seem to be working with Cobra One Tactical in Great Meadows. I wanted to do some training with them when they were in Randolph and was disappointed when they moved.

Did anyone do any training with them? How was the experience?

Thanks!

I had the same experience with them as your when they were working in Randolph.  I signed up to take their home defense course and had it cancelled on me over four times because they could not get enough people to take it.  Finally just gave up on them.

Myself and three of my buddies had an all day class with them at RTSP a while back. We had about an hour of class room then we were in the range for most of the day.

Did a good deal of speed shooting with pistols. Also did a ton of tactical shooting and shooting on the move. Our instructor was an active duty Ranger. Also a big sport shooter. He started off taking video of us drawing from our holster and shooting at targets. Fast as we could. Then taught us how to draw aim and shoot his way. At the end of pistol training he video taped us again to show us how we changed.

We got a great deal out of it mostly when it came to the proper grip and recoil control.

We finished the day with our ARs shooting and moving.

Well worth the money.

I stopped by Cobra One yesterday to check it out.   Met and spoke with one of their instructors.     Very impressed.  I'm looking forward to taking classes with them and joining their range.

I just finished Combat Pistol 1 today with Pat from Spartan Group. Great instruction, great facility. Can't say enough good about the experience.

Learned some of my weak points and where I have room for improvement.

Lots of moving and shooting. An all around great experience.

Major props to Pat from Spartan Group and Keith from Cobra One Tactical!

What was the round count like?

Mikeyjones, keep an eye on the site. There may be some scheduling changes as the instructor may be out of country.

As far as the class goes, make sure you have the required equipment. Class requires 3 magazines, I ran 5 mags. One failed due to mud and I still had enough to get by.

Also bring extra ammo, we ran a couple extra drills at the end since we had a bit of time.

And remember the KISS principle (Keep it simple stupid). People we had running tacticool rigs had more problems than those running a simple holster on a nylon belt.

Keep it consistent and you'll find that things work out for you.

Bring layers. We started off freezing and ended up rather warm.

Bring food or cash. There's a deli across the street.

Oh and have fun!

Did you get any confirmation or communication from them before the class? I registered last week and it's been radio silence.

So my class was scheduled for tomorrow. Never heard a peep. I just called the host range and they told me that spartan group has cancelled all classes through June. Would be nice if someone let me know.

Not using them again.

That aside, any matches going on tomorrow?

Interesting. I mentioned the instructor is out of the country, I'm surprised the website wasn't updated before hand.

Sorry you had a negative experience. Once the class actually takes place the instruction is top notch.

I had not seen your note until just now.  I was signed up for Combat Rifle 2 this Sunday, 4/3, but when I inquired about the status of the class, I received that same information, that the instructor has been deployed, forcing a cancellation of all Spartan Group classes.

Love how they communicate so efficiently.

Best part was when I filed dispute w/ PayPal, they emailed me immediately asking why.  Definitely doesn't smell like a reputable operation...

Definitely is a reputable operation from someone who has done business with them. The instructor is active duty and those commitments supersede teaching commitments.

Yes, there was a miscommunication, but I assure you Spartan Group has no intention of ripping anyone off.

Agree to disagree. Miscommunication happens once. It's a pattern if it happens multiple times.

Just to follow up, after learning that the class had been cancelled, I contacted Spartan Group and promptly received a full refund.

So while communication may be less than stellar, I believe that Spartan Group and Cobra One Tactical are honest and reputable.
