W2MC 1,699 Posted January 20, 2016 I'm another one who has that "ready-to-assemble" cabinet. I covered the back with construction adhesive before attaching it to my foundation with half a dozen 1/2" lag bolts and anchors. It's not coming out without a cubic yard of concrete still attached to it. Pry it open or cut it open, but you won't be taking the whole thing. I also lined the interior with ultra-cheap outdoor carpeting from home depot. It's the same stuff that most safes are lined with, holds Velcro, etc. and some thin weatherstripping around the door. The carpet looks much nicer and between it and the weatherstripping, the tinny steel cabinet sound is gone. I also replaced the shelf and racks with some scrap mahogany I had left from another project (with felt on the racks) and installed a battery powered light. I currently have 5 long guns in it and I'll easily get a few more in it. Sounds VERY nice!

Lambo2936 297 Posted January 21, 2016 I got my safe in the house today. Came about a week early, before i even got my FID. Called yesterday morning and the lady i have been dealing with told me that they have all of the stuff in they are just waiting on the Mental health records and once they get that its basically same day to get my FID.I won't be bolting down the safe or anything in case for some reason i don't get the FID (Which is extremely unlikely, but always possible in the PRNJ). Once i am officially approved ill put the bolts into the wall. In the meantime, i have to find some way to get some light in there. It's fairly solid, A friend of mine and my younger brother helped me get it in without too much craziness. I would like to add some lights to it if anyone has any suggestions. I'll post pictures when im home later. Not bad for the price, at all.
Krdshrk 3,877 Posted January 21, 2016 Use some of those magnetic lights - like the ones that run on batteries and use a LED light... Harbor freight has 'em.
Lambo2936 297 Posted January 21, 2016 I Think i have some at work, actually. Thats a good idea. Would that work with a fireproof safe? I don't recall what was inside the safe other than that carpeting type stuff. If i remember correctly the fireproof ones have some sort of fireproofing material on the inside; would a magnetic based light be strong enough to still hold? Please correct me if im wrong; i had to run to work after getting the safe in so i didn't get to do much examining other than just making sure everything functioned properly. It's quite nice, however it seems like the vast majority of the weight is in the door; When the door is open, the empty safe dang near tips over. Any downward pressure and it starts tipping over. I Hope the sides are somewhat secure, though again nothing would stop a determined criminal.

I used them around the front just inside the door. They look great provide more than enough light and you can change the colors if the mood suits you.
