  1. just had a friend bring his upper and this brake to a shop here in NJ and was told that it was a flash suppressor and the gunsmith would not install it...i don't want to name names, but it's crazy that we are still dealing with ambiguity like this as far as brakes/flash hiders go.
  2. RAS47 by century arms with magpul furniture, ALG defense trigger and primary arms red dot
  3. thanks for the quick feedback... and that's what i thought. i hate that things are so messed up that someone asking me a question will make me revisit the issue or think i might be wrong about something like that.
  4. If i live in NJ can i drive to PA, buy a handgun, take ownership, and drive back? I'm pretty sure the answer to this is no, but i want to be sure. Someone is telling me it can be done since PA is contiguous with NJ but i'm trying to tell them it's not possible. I found this on another forum: You cannot purchase a handgun in a state other than your state of residence. Legally, that is. An FFL will shut you right down. You can purchase a long gun (rifle, shotgun) anywhere in the USA, but not handguns. You can purchase a handgun if you have the handgun shipped directly to an FFL Dealer in your state of residence. That dealer will complete the NICS check with your 4473. The transfer to you must take place in your state of residence. When I purchase a handgun via the Internet, for example, I have the handgun shipped to my local dealer. He then completes the transfer to me just as he does when he is selling me the gun. Short answer: Can't do it. "interstate" Long answer: Can do it, but can't accept handgun in other state. The seller must ship it to a dealer in your state. Said dealer then makes the "intrastate" transfer to you.

  6. if you haven't tried to fit new/different furniture to the rifle yourself, i wouldn't make such a claim. century states that it is akm furniture "compatible" - so i'm guessing that some aftermarket furniture may fit, some may not and some may require modification. i've watched the videos on you tube as well. the reason one guy states that aftermarket handguards will not fit is because the receiver and trunion are slightly thicker than normal....so some filing or dremeling of the handguard would be required in order to get them to fit. so they can be switched out, your choice of handguard just might need some "fitting". optimal? no possible? yes
  7. thanks. ordered through atlantic firearms. delivered to my FFL so i was able to get the slant brake pinned and welded and the 30rd pmags which he blocked and pinned for me. i put 100 rounds through it tonight and it ran great. accuracy was there, great trigger, and recoil/control with the slant brake was good. i'm happy as hell. my buddy who has a Saiga w/conversion kit liked it too.
  8. picked up my RAS 47 the other day, she gets broken in tonight...i can't wait.
  9. nice pic and awesome build, looks a lot like mine. great work
  10. http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/catalog/product/view/id/18836/s/ptac-16-carbine-length-308-win-1-10-upper-with-bcg-and-charging-handle/ http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/catalog/product/view/id/18862/s/ptac-ar15-blackhawk-complete-lower-receiver/ there's $530, plus a brake and compliance work...with transfer, etc. i bet you could have that for less than $750. i'm sure there are cheaper rifles out there, i look to palmetto because i believe you get pretty decent quality for your money, which again, some people may feel differently. https://www.stagarms.com/model-3/ (the cheapest i see on their site is $895) https://www.atlanticfirearms.com/component/virtuemart/shipping-rifles/stag-arms-model-2-ar15-rifle-detail.html?Itemid=0 ($750 but still needs brake + compliance work) there must be a mythical $500 beast out there somewhere, but NJ legal...? that's a tough buy
  11. http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/catalog/product/view/id/18894/s/psa-16-carbine-length-chf-m4-5-56-1-7-rifle-kit/ $500 puts you right in the middle of that range. yes, it's palmetto, which some could argue isn't a top tier brand, and i have limited experience with them. but for the money, i believe you probably get some good bang for your buck. (see what i did there?)
  12. yes, BCM carries that comp, for the same price shown in that link
  13. i didn't give that piece much thought until i was installing my barrel and used it to time/align the barrel nut with the gas tube pin. took all the guess work out of getting it aligned just right
